Visium Apex Selected for USDA-Funded Avian Influenza Research Initiative
Visium has been selected as a collaborator in the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service FY2025 HPAI Poultry Innovation Grand Challenge, a multi-year research program led by Columbia University.
Visium has been selected as a collaborator in the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service FY2025 HPAI Poultry Innovation Grand Challenge, a multi-year research program led by Columbia University.
As part of this initiative, Visium is supplying its Apex™ Far-UVC fixtures for installation and evaluation in both controlled ABSL-3 laboratory environments and active poultry housing facilities.
The program will evaluate 222 nm Far-UVC as an engineering control to help reduce transmission of highly pathogenic avian influenza strains, including H5N1 avian influenza and H9N2 avian influenza, across real-world agricultural settings.
This effort brings together leading institutions in infectious disease research, including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Texas A&M University, to advance practical, scalable biosecurity strategies for the poultry industry.
Visium Apex was purpose-built for demanding agricultural environments. The system is IP65-rated, making it dust-tight and water-resistant, and is designed to operate continuously in conditions where conventional approaches are often impractical. Apex is also UL-certified for wet locations, supporting safe deployment in high-moisture, high-particulate environments.
Beyond this research initiative, Visium Apex is already being deployed in livestock and veterinary settings across the United States, including pig and poultry operations, where continuous environmental control is increasingly viewed as a critical layer in modern biosecurity infrastructure.
This project represents one of the first large-scale, real-world evaluations of Far-UVC deployment in poultry production environments and is expected to generate important data on performance, scalability, and operational integration.
Visium is proud to support this work alongside leading researchers and institutions advancing the next generation of agricultural biosecurity.
