Dr. Shashwat Rathkanthiwar is a seasoned materials scientist and prolific researcher with more than 13 years of experience in ultrawide bandgap nitride semiconductors. His interdisciplinary approach bridges materials science, device physics, and electronic engineering to advance next-generation technologies in optoelectronics, power electronics, quantum systems, and other critical semiconductor applications.

As the Director of MOCVD Research at Visium UltraLabs, Dr. Rathkanthiwar leads semiconductor research and development efforts focused on Metalorganic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) of ultrawide bandgap nitride materials. His work enables breakthrough advancements in far-ultraviolet optoelectronics, as well as high-power and high-frequency electronic devices.

Dr. Rathkanthiwar earned his undergraduate degree in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering switching gears to Nano Science and Engineering for his Ph.D. at the Indian Institute of Science where his thesis focused on III-nitride deep ultraviolet photodetectors. He subsequently completed a four-year postdoctoral appointment at North Carolina State University’s WideBandgaps Laboratory, where he developed expertise in epitaxial growth of nitride semiconductors on native substrates, with a focus on doping control, defect engineering, and strain management.

His scholarly contributions include 42 peer-reviewed journal publications, one patent, 20 invited talks, and more than 100 presentations at international conferences. His research has been recognized through multiple Editor’s Pick selections in Applied Physics Letters and numerous awards for scientific excellence, including Best Oral and Best Poster Presentation awards. Dr. Rathkanthiwar also serves as a reviewer for 14 leading scientific journals and chairs technical sessions at premier conferences, including the American Conference on Crystal Growth and Epitaxy (ACCGE), Compound Semiconductor Week (CSW), the Electronic Materials Conference (EMC), and the Materials Research Society (MRS) Meeting.
